Pottery Taster Sessions in Sevenoaks, Kent

Come and discover pottery at Pau Pottery Studio, a welcoming, purpose-built ceramic studio set in the beautiful Kent countryside near Sevenoaks.
Our 3-hour pottery taster sessions are perfect for complete beginners. You'll learn simple handbuilding techniques, try your hand at the potter's wheel and create your own ceramic pieces in a friendly, supportive environment.
No previous experience is needed. We'll guide you through each step, so you can relax, get creative and enjoy the experience of making something with your own hands.

What will you experience?
Your pottery taster is divided into two parts, giving you the chance to explore two different ways of working with clay.
1. Make your own mug by hand
We'll introduce you to handbuilding techniques and guide you through making your own personalised ceramic mug. You'll learn how to shape and work with clay, adding your own creative touches along the way.
2. Have a go on the potter's wheel
After a short break, you'll be introduced to the potter's wheel. With a demonstration and guidance from your tutor, you'll have the chance to get your hands into the clay and try creating a few small pots.
Throwing on the wheel takes practice, so don't worry if your first attempts aren't perfect. The fun is in having a go and discovering what you can make!
3. Choose your favourite pieces
At the end of the session, you'll choose up to two of your favourite pieces to be glazed and fired by us. Your finished pottery will usually be ready to collect from the studio within around four weeks.
You'll leave with new skills, a lovely creative memory and pottery that you've made yourself.
What's included in the £85 price?
Your pottery taster includes everything you need for a relaxed, hands-on experience:
- A three-hour guided pottery workshop
- An introduction to handbuilding and wheel throwing
- Clay, tools and use of our studio equipment
- Glazing and two firings for up to two selected pieces
- Aprons and refreshments
- Friendly guidance throughout the session
There are no previous skills to learn beforehand, and you don't need to bring any equipment. Just come ready to get your hands muddy and enjoy yourself!
Who can join a pottery taster?
Our sessions are suitable for adults and children aged 10 and over, provided children attend with a paying, participating adult.
Whether you're planning a creative morning with a partner, catching up with a friend, spending time together as a family or trying pottery for the very first time, you're very welcome at our studio.
A minimum of two participants is required for a session to go ahead. If only one person has booked, we may need to arrange an alternative date if another participant hasn't joined.

Planning a get-together with friends or family? We can also arrange private pottery taster sessions for groups of four to six people, subject to availability.

Pau Pottery Studio is located in Halstead, near Sevenoaks, Kent, and is accessible from Sevenoaks, Bromley and the surrounding areas.
Our purpose-built studio offers a relaxed, welcoming space to slow down, try something new and enjoy the simple pleasure of making with clay. Parking is available at the studio.
